“Family tradition brings us to the Atlantic Ocean for a week every year. We pack up the car, road trip down in carefree conversation, and set up camp in the oasis of sand and seawater. And it happens annually: I’m standing out in the water and am struck with the thought of I’ve never felt this at ease in my life. If the water’s calm, I’ll admire the sun’s kaleidoscope reflections on it for hours. If it’s rough, I’ll just jump or dive or let each wave crash on top of me.
