“Happiness is the Boat” 5×7 print

During undergrad, I had the chance to talk over tea with a man named Michael, who had spent years living in L’Arche communities around the world. I asked him what his biggest takeaway had been. He referenced the organization’s logo, depicting three people in a boat, and said something I’ll never forget:

“Say life is a boat ride. I think too often we assume we’ll be happy when the boat gets to a certain place. But… what I’ve learned, and what these people have taught me… is that happiness is the boat you ride in.”
