This piece– titled “Tall Poppy Celebration”– is created in direct response to the concept of “Tall Poppy Syndrome,” which states that an individual (unfortunately, especially a woman) who achieves too much success or acclaim tends to be cut down in one way or another. My painting illustrates my experienced truth: that people supporting people’s (especially women’s) success, and being inspired by it rather than threatened, always always leads to more success across the board. “Tall Poppy Celebration” promotes a refreshing worldview where everyone can take up space, find joy, thrive, and cheer on everyone around them.
